Vote NO. 4
Chun Ye
Hinsdale Library Board
April 1st 2025

About Me
My name is Chun Ye. I am a graphic designer and art instructor. I have lived in Hinsdale with my husband and my thirteen-year-old twin daughters for eleven years. I am currently serving a two-year term as a trustee on the Hinsdale Library Board.
During my time on the library board, I have enjoyed working on many exciting improvements. One of my favorite projects was working on the new public plaza for the Hinsdale Memorial Building. This beautiful outdoor space will allow the library to host more community events. I have also worked to create more multicultural events at the library like the Mid-Autumn Festival where hundreds of people helped us welcome the harvest moon with live music, crafts, a talent show and food. I am passionate about finding ways to celebrate our community’s rich cultural diversity. In addition, I have used my experience as a children’s art instructor to add more art to the library and ensure that the library is an inspiring place for children of all ages.
I am so proud of our library and I am grateful for the opportunity to serve our community. Now with your help, I am seeking a second term on the library board so I can continue to make the library a modern and welcoming place that everyone in Hinsdale can enjoy. I’m NO. 4 on the ballot.
In-person early voting begins March 17 in Hinsdale and Brookfield
Voting hours on April 1 will be from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Thanks you for your support!

Board experience: 2 years Board experience as Hinsdale Library Board Trustee.
Why are you running for this particular seat at this particular time?
I'm running for a second term on the Hinsdale Library Board because my work on the Art Committee and Space Plan Committee is still in progress. Over the past year, I’ve been deeply involved in developing a space plan to give the library a fresh, modern look and improve its functionality. I want to see these projects through to completion and ensure our library continues to evolve for the community.
What in your personal or professional experience has prepared you to be an effective
board member?
My experience in advertising and marketing could help with community outreach and engagement, while my artistic and interior design knowledge would contribute to creating inviting and dynamic spaces. Plus, 20 years of community involvement in Chicago means I have a deep understanding of Hinsdale local needs.
What in your opinion are the board’s three most important responsibilities?
-
Establishing the Library's Mission and Vision - this involves strategic planning, developing and implementing policies,
-
The board formulates policies that govern the library's operations, services, and programs.
-
Hiring and Evaluating the Library Director. The board regularly evaluates the director to ensure effective management and alignment with the library's mission
What is the library’s greatest strength? Which area is most in need of attention?
To provide free access to information for the community libraries offering programs, technology, and expert guidance that foster education and engagement. Libraries often support literacy programs, cultural events, and technology access, making them vital public resources.
Digital transformation is an ongoing challenge, as libraries must balance physical collections with the growing demand for digital resources, online access, and technology-driven learning spaces.
The Hinsdale Public Library’s greatest strength is likely its strong community engagement and diverse programming. Hinsdale Public Library emphasize enriching cultural and educational experiences for all ages, offering book clubs, lectures, children’s storytimes, and technology resources that make it a valuable hub for learning and connection.
As for an area in need of attention, that depends on the specific needs of the community. Some common challenges for libraries include:
-
Technology & Digital Services: Ensuring that digital resources (like e-books, databases, and computer access) are up-to-date and accessible.
-
Space & Accessibility: Hinsdale Public Library has limited seating, study spaces, or outdated facilities, it needs modernization.
What is the most pressing budgetary matter the library will face over the next four years?
The most pressing budgetary matter for the Hinsdale Public Library over the next four years will be effectively balancing the funding of strategic initiatives—such as the planned remodel—with ongoing operational expenses, all while adapting to potential fluctuations in revenue sources. Ensuring that modernization efforts align with fiscal responsibility will be key to maintaining high-quality services without overextending the budget.
What do you think of the plans to remodel the library, including the cost?
The library remodel is designed to enhance services, improve efficiency, and create a more accessible and user-friendly space. It aligns with the library’s long-term strategic plan, ensuring that technology, functionality, and community needs are met. While any renovation impacts operational costs, we are committed to being fiscally responsible—finding ways to maximize improvements while keeping costs as low as possible to achieve the best results for our community.
What will be your top three priorities if elected?
As an incumbent candidate seeking a second term as a Hinsdale Public Library trustee, my top three priorities are:
-
Implementing the 2023-2025 Strategic Plan: Building upon the initiatives outlined in our current strategic plan, I aim to ensure that the library continues to meet the evolving needs of our community. This includes enhancing educational and cultural experiences, promoting intellectual freedom, and supporting the recreational pursuits of our residents.
-
Conducting a Comprehensive Space plan: To optimize the library's layout and resource allocation, I plan to oversee a thorough space plan. This assessment will evaluate the efficiency of our current setup and identify opportunities for improvements, ensuring that our facilities effectively support both existing services and future enhancements.
-
As a community hub to bridge the gap between young, local artists and residents. As a Hinsdale based art instructor, I’m an active member of the art community. I have a unique opportunity to connect with young and local artists with Hinsdale residents through the library.
By focusing on these priorities, I aim to uphold the library's mission and enhance its value as a cornerstone of our community.
